At Westergaard, we are Brand Driven in everything we do. For over 30 years, we have provided strategic brand consultation and creative services to businesses large and small from our offices in Central and Eastern Iowa. We work with our client partners to build strong brands and activate them across appropriate media touch points.
President, Brand Strategist
As team leader, Dean works in all aspects of the business, while concentrating on client service, creative, and media coordination. Areas of expertise include the traditional mediums of radio, television, print, and outdoor. As our senior copywriter and resident storyteller, his brand-centric approach keeps our clients’ stories at the forefront of all of our projects.
Dean got his start in advertising in 1972 on the radio side of the business – first in southwest Iowa and then Des Moines. In 1980 he joined a local advertising agency and in December 1981 he founded Westergaard Advertising from his home in Clive. From the start, Dean’s mission was simple — create effective advertising to help clients meet their goals. In 1992 the agency moved west to Adel and in 2007 the Eastern Iowa office opened in Coralville. As the business grows his principles continue to shape our agency’s culture.
Dean and his wife live just outside of Adel, Iowa. They have two grown children and five grandchildren.

Office Mascot, Thought Leader
Lucy joined the dog-eat-dog world of advertising seven years ago. Although independently wealthy from a previous career in public speaking, Lucy begged for the opportunity to be part of the Westergaard team.
With her myriad talents, Lucy is always looking for a new project she can sink her teeth into. Research has been one of her specialties, as she can often be found pouring over trade journals. Media relations is another area where she shows her public relations pedigree. Lucy’s in-your-face approach seems to have a very humanizing effect on media representatives.
However, Lucy’s greatest contribution is her approach to problem solving. Lucy demonstrates daily that if you just stretch out in your office chair, close your eyes and relax – the solution will come to you.
Lucy is currently single and lives in a commune near Adel.
Guerilla Marketing Guru
Arriving at the back door of the agency from a life on the streets, Murphy came with a worldly set of skills ideally suited to head up the agency’s guerilla marketing efforts.
Drawing on her extensive long walks through various communities, Murphy has an uncanny knack for leading us to the perfect out-of-home media targets for maximum brand impact. Her keen senses also alert us when a non-traditional approach is needed to cut-through the cluttered marketplace.
Murphy’s true strength lies as a moral compass for the office. Lounging on her office pillow during even the most tense of times, she projects a contagious cool demeanor reminding the whole team of the big picture.
Murphy is single and lives in Coralville.
