As team leader, Dean works in all aspects of the business, while concentrating on client service, creative, and strategy. Areas of expertise include brand strategy and broadcast media. As our senior copywriter and resident storyteller, his brand-centric approach keeps our clients’ stories at the forefront of all of our projects.
Dean got his start in advertising in 1972 on the radio side of the business – first in southwest Iowa and then Des Moines. In 1980 he joined a local advertising agency and in December 1981 he founded Westergaard Advertising from his home in Clive. From the start, Dean’s mission was simple — build strong brands to help clients meet their goals. In 1992 the agency moved west to Adel and in 2007 the Eastern Iowa office opened in Coralville. As the business grows his principles continue to shape our culture.
Dean and his wife live just outside of Adel, Iowa. They have two grown children and five grandchildren.
Chief Brand Strategist
Nick Westergaard is a strategist, speaker, writer, and educator. As Chief Brand Strategist, he works with organizations of all shapes and sizes to build better brands online through social media and digital marketing.
Since 2005 Nick has blogged about marketing, posting fresh brand-driven insights each week. He has written for MarketingProfs, 12 Most, and The Gazette, where he is a regular columnist. His thoughts on social media and marketing have been featured in news sources such as US News & World Report, Entrepreneur magazine, Mashable, American Express OPEN Forum, and The Des Moines Register. He’s also the author of the eBooks Google+ 101 and Instagram for Brands and co-host of The Work Talk Show podcast.
Nick is a sought-after speaker on branding and social media at conferences and corporate events throughout the world. He also teaches marketing at the University of Iowa, where he sits on the Professional Advisory Board for the School of Journalism and Mass Communication and the Advisory Council of the Marketing Institute at the Tippie College of Business.
Nick lives in Coralville, Iowa, with his wife, five kids, and dog.
Director of Digital Strategy
Macy Koch is the Director of Digital Strategy at Brand Driven Digital. As a marketing strategist, Macy can spot opportunities to strengthen brands and businesses alike. She’s been called “the bees-knees” by Foursquare founder, Dennis Crowley, and has access at any time to over 20 business social accounts. Macy has spoken at conferences and on panels on various topics including branding, social media, and marketing, and has worked with small and large businesses, as well as startups and non-profits.
Macy is deeply immersed in the startup culture in the midwest, having helped found RecBob, and continues to contribute to the regional startup and tech focused publication, Silicon Prairie News.
Macy lives in Des Moines with her dog, Reuben. When not working or jotting down her “next big idea,” Macy can be found walking on a trail, painting on canvas, or tasting the newest craft brew.
Client Services Manager
Angie works on the front lines with our clients developing effective brand strategies and bringing them to life across a variety of media touchpoints. Her areas of expertise include product/brand management and market research.
Angie worked for six years as a Product Developer and Manager for Build-A-Bear Workshop developing their skins, clothing, and accessories. Most recently she was a product developer at TRG Group developing travel accessories. Both positions involved extensive travel throughout the United States as well as several trips to China. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a marketing focus from Truman State University.
After 10 years in St. Louis, Angie and her family returned to Iowa. She lives northwest of Adel, Iowa with her husband and two girls.
Project & Events Manager
Cate functions as our control tower — managing and scheduling projects through all stages of production while ensuring quality control and timely delivery of our work. Her areas of expertise include project management and workflow development. She is also the logistical coordinator behind our live learning events.
Prior to joining the team, Cate worked for the University of Iowa for four years in the Business Manager’s Office and in the School of Art and Art History. She also served as an English Instructor at Dalian Nationalities University in China. Cate is a graduate of Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon with a major in Political Science, and is completing her MFA in Creative Writing from the University of California, Riverside.
Cate lives in Coralville, Iowa with her husband, Bradley, and their two small dachshunds, Lola and Frida.
Kristie Anderson heads our accounting operations and is responsible for bookkeeping and monthly invoicing.
Kristie graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a degree in accounting and has spent her career in both the public and private sectors. For the past seven years she has been running an accounting business from her home.
Kristie lives just south of Adel, Iowa with her husband and two children. She loves attending her kids’ many activities including sports, dance and cheerleading. She volunteers at their school, and enjoys scrapbooking and reading.
Search & Analytics Coordinator
As Search and Analytics Coordinator, Sarah works with our clients on paid search and social advertising, developing strategies, managing budgets, and aligning them within clients’ brand strategies. She also develops and provides clients with regular reporting and scorecards.
Sarah graduated with Honors from the University of Iowa in May 2012 with degrees in Marketing and Biology, and a minor in Studio Arts. Prior to graduation she worked as a research assistant in the University of Iowa Department of Marketing and was a dedicated student member of the Marketing Institute. She has studied abroad in both Spain and China.
Sarah currently lives in Gurnee, Illinois, a northern suburb of Chicago.
As a freelance writer, Jordan works with our clients on blog content, newsletters, press releases, and more, aligning all communications with the organization’s brand image. Jordan also serves the Iowa Grocery Association in her current capacity as education and events manager.
Prior to her current role, she worked as communications manager for the National Pork Board. She began her career as the first employee in the communications department for Vermeer Corporation. A graduate of Central College, Jordan graduated with honors with a degree in English and a minor in Spanish.
She currently resides in Des Moines, Iowa with her fiancé, Brian, two dogs, Bill and Murray (yes, that was intentional), and can be found jogging the local trails with the two in tote.
Digital Marketing Specialist
Meghann works deep in the digital trenches for our clients by managing, executing, and measuring email campaigns and social media/community engagement. She is also a copywriter on many online projects including email marketing and website development.
She has degrees from Waldorf College and the University of Iowa. Outside of her work for the agency, Meghann is a regular contributor to the Iowa City Moms Blog. She is also a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT-200) at various studios in the Coralville-North Liberty area.
Meghann lives with her husband Nick Westergaard and five kids in Coralville, Iowa.
